Is it only the pastor who is to preach?

Stirring the Church to Action!

To love God with all our heart, soul and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves....

2 Timothy 4:1-5 NKJV - I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

We know we should love our neighbors; joining our hearts and lives with fellow Christians and reaching those that don't know Him with the love of Christ and the message of redemption.

We know we are called to the highways and byways, to compel them to come to His great feast, but there are many challenges to obeying this command.  How do we do it?

The most and perhaps only effective way of telling the real "good news" to people is through a Christian who is filled with the Spirit and Word of God, speaking the truth in love, even when it is not comfortable.

The world must know that the "part time" Christianity and hypocrisy often displayed in the modern church is not a representation of the full redemption Christ came to provide.    We must not only demonstrate a transformed life and a love of the brethren and of the stranger that will cause them to wonder and know that we are His disciples but we also must open our mouths and declare the glorious reason for that transformed life lest they think it is of our own doing!

Not everyone will come when invited, but don't let that stop you

We have found that many are too busy to respond to our hospitality, some do, and it's great, we get to share a meal and the gospel and most respond well but "preaching the gospel to every creature" is not going to be accomplished even through an aggressive/active use of this hospitality method- maybe it would if ALL Christians did it, but they are not doing so!!!
The inviters and invitees are often like those in Luke 14 who were invited to the wedding feast and were too busy to come....
Luke 14:16-23 NKJV - Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, "and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.' "But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.' "And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.' "Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' "So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.' "And the servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.' "Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

Street Preaching

If we are going to invite them ALL, we have to GO out and COMPEL them!!!   SO, I personally have come full circle, I used to street preach after Bible college years ago, and lo and behold, done properly, it is a viable and effective Biblical part of accomplishing the great commission!
Our family decided to go to poor crime ridden neighborhoods to preach the gospel because we thought they would accept and embrace the gospel more quickly than more affluent, "safe", "Laodicean" people.  We have had good success, but we were surprised to see that our "poor" in America have much of the same responses and excuses as the more affluent that we have spoken to.
We will continue to "To preach good tidings to the poor... heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound" but we can see that this too is not enough to fulfill the great commission because even here where some good news is more obviously needed, there are still not large crowds gathering.  Since, so far, revival has not hit the neighborhood, and thus many people will not hear and may slip through the cracks.  We must do more to fulfill the great commission.  See street by street

Out of Season

We also have started practicing sharing our faith when it is not "permissible".  We must stop letting an excess of "courtesy" keep us from proclaiming the only message that will save those we are being courteous to!  True love and understanding must compel us, past the awkwardness, to share the gospel no matter where we are .
